It's totally seductive on the nose, showing rich fruit intensity, star anise, floral, dark chocolate and classy oak aromas, followed by a sumptuous palate offering multi-layered mouthfeel backed by fleshy texture and seamlessly woven tannins. The wine offers opulence with refinement, making it hugely appealing. At its best: now to 2041. Score - 97. (Sam Kim, wineorbit.co.nz, Aug. 2024)
Lush, rich ripe red fruit, with violets and white pepper spiciness and a long lasting finish. Score - 95. (International Wine Challenge, 2020)
100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The bright, vivid, aromatic ripe fruit on the nose is fresh and pure. The palate is sweet and rich, polished and ripe, with clusters of blue and dark red berries, hints of apricot and a hit of delicate cedar wood, mocha and vanilla. A wine which will age well. Score - 95. (Decanter World Wine Awards, 2022)
The 2019 growing season had the highest temperatures ever recorded in the Clare Valley. This extreme heat strains the vines and causes the grapes to swell, resulting in a voluptuous Chardonnay with layers of tropical fruit and nectarine. A year spent in French oak casks adds a velvety texture. Pair with lentil soup.[Australian Wine Showcase did not include a tasting note.] Score - 95. (Australian Wine Showcase, 2021)
Youthful, lifted aromas of blackberry, mulberry, satsuma plum, sweet spice and cedary oak. The palate is dark, juicy and mouth-filling. There's a drive of pure dark fruits along with bramble, dark chocolate, licorice and mint. The tannins are firm and structured and the acidity brings cut and snap to the finish. Big, bold, juicy and very nicely balanced. Drink date: 2024-2034. Score - 95. (Aaron Brasher, therealreview.com, May 25, 2024)
Garnet color. Aromas and flavors of black cherry, mint, cocoa nibs, and brisket burnt ends with a velvety, lively, dry medium-to-full body and a tingling, delightful, medium-long finish imparting notes of cherry, blackberry, eucalyptus, and black tea with chewy, well-integrated tannins and light oak flavor. Lovely, absolutely lovely; a BTG or stocked up at home, this is a wonderful everyday drinker. Exceptional. Score - 93. (tastings.com, Aug. 9, 2024)
The Clare Valley is known as a cooler climate within the Australian context, and that translates to brilliant acidity and fine structure in this red blend. The wine displays complex, intermingling aromas of plum, spice and red fruit, with subtle overtones of chocolate, mint and violets along with an appealing tea leaf note, and finally cedar and spice from oak maturation. Savour this wine now through 2030 and beyond.
There's a lot to like in this cool-climate Chardonnay. It has mouth-watering, tangy tropical fruit, pineapple, melon, lime, peach, well-managed oak, touches of spice, and a nice flinty-edged mineral note.[The Australian Wine Showcase did not include a tasting note.] Score - 93. Wakefield is the name used in North America by Australia's eminent Taylor family. Their Clare Valley Shiraz will offer great depth and richness with toast, nuts, prune, herbs and coffee. Pair with lamb.
This tangy Chardonnay offers a wide range of flavours, including sunny tropical fruit, peach, citrus, apple, buttercream and toast. It will be wonderful with grilled chicken or an avocado-and-chickpea salad.
