This is a blend of 49% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. The wine was fermented with extended maceration in French oak and concrete tanks. It was aged 19 months in French oak. The wine begins with appealing aromas of cassis, spice and dark cherry. The long and silky tannins support flavours of dark fruits with a hint of chocolate. Part of Mission Hill's top tier Legacy Series, Quatrain is a very ripe, powerful dense and delicious blend based on syrah, with merlot and the cab brothers - franc and sauv. The nose is very expressive with plummy/black cherry fruit, violet, pepper, cedar and wood spice. It is full bodied, open knit, dense and enveloping with considerable sandy tannin. A sleek, juicy merlot, well-poised with fine chalky tannins and a sense of restraint. Red cherry and ripe plum mingle with gentle spice and well-balanced acidity. A little reserved at first, it hints at grilled stonefruit, lemon curd and toasted nuts. There is a real harmony of fruit and tension on the palate that is quite charming.
