Lovely, classic-smelling Rioja Gran Reserva here from stalwart Barón de Ley, complete with toasted coconut, sandalwood, cedar and melted butter flavours, also dried cherry fruit and wild herbs. I love the silky-firm texture, the sapid and saline qualities, the genuine substance and depth. Textbook wine all around, enjoyable now but surely no rush; cellar into the thirties without concern. An elegant red, with a bright beam of cherry wrapped in a bow of vanilla and cedar. Shows a firm edge of tannins lining the long finish, but food or a few years of aging will take care of that.
