A perfumed nose with grapefruit, brambleberries, stones, herbs, savory spices and dried flowers. Medium- to full-bodied with silty tannins. It's harmonious and textured with bright acidity. Pristine and transparent with a succulent core of berries at the center and vibrant energy throughout. Mineral and authentic. Precise finish with excellent length. Drink or hold [through 2029+]. Score - 96. (jamessuckling.com, Nov. 28, 2023)
There is a lot of elegance here, with fresh and candied cedro, macis, green apple and floral depth. Zesty tension on the palate with enough texture to provide good balance, turning slightly tighter on the finish. Carricante. Sustainable. Drink now. Score - 94. (jamessuckling.com, May 30, 2024)
A very graceful, quietly complex red with red berries that are tinged with the mildest of spice. Medium-bodied and super well balanced with a long finish. Don't expect anything dramatic here; it's just beautiful. Enjoy now [into the early 2030s]. Score - 96. (jamessuckling.com, Oct. 5, 2021)
Tornatore's Pietrarizzo continues to show the depth and allure of white wines from Etna, with an intensely saline nose that offers citrus zest and slate, lifted with white-flower petals and white peaches. The palate is lemon, white pepper, seashells and gravel, but also more stone fruit and hints of prickly pear and guava. The briny, flinty foundation has an acid rebar that confirms this can take some age and become even more exciting in five to eight years. Score - 93. (Wine Enthusiast, Dec. 31, 2022)
Tornatore's 2021 Pietrarizzo Rosso pours a typically pale red garnet colour, and presents an attractive set of aromatics featuring wild strawberry and wild herbs, dried earth and tonic qualities in an appealing display. The palate is medium-full bodied, fleshy and fluid, with very good depth and concentration, one of the best vintages so far for this single contrada bottling. I find the balance impeccable and the palate seamless. Drink or hold into the early '30s. Tasted October 2024. Score - 93. (John Szabo, MS, winealign.com)
Tornatore is one of the larger wineries among dozens on the north slope of Mt. Etna. Made from the local carricante grape, this is a hefty yet streamlined white with a complex and well integrated nose of almost tropical guava and olive overlaid with the flinty/smoky aromas of Etna's volcanic soils. Almost peppery as well. It is a full bodied fairly dense and serious white with girth and length. Really solid and well balanced with excellent length. Tasted March 2024. Score - 91. (David Lawrason, winealign.com)
The most understandable and straightforward Etna Rosso there could be, mature and layered, of riches and earth, fruit and soil all in the mix. A volcanic paint by numbers canvas of realism and beauty, easily accessible and generous to a perfectly reasonable degree. Entry point for the DOC and once in, never to look back. Drink 2024-2026. Tasted May and September 2024. Score - 90. (Michael Godel, winealign.com)
