From a quality-focused family winery, this wine is big and powerful, even for an Amarone. It's rich and plush-textured, with luscious flavours of chocolate, licorice, prune, nuts and flowers.
Ripasso wines are fondly referred to as 'baby Amarone' by some. Zenato's baby is bigger and richer than most, with intense flavours of chocolate, mixed berry jam, cocoa, smoke and licorice. Pair it with risotto with gorgonzola, or grilled sausages and tomatoes.
From a much-beloved producer, this fresh, juicy white wine shows hints of tropical fruit under the richly defined apple, peach, honeysuckle and citrus. A characterful minerality provides added depth and distinction. A glorious sipper, it will also work with seafood, ham, or grilled squash and mushrooms with fresh herbs.
This wine flexes without showing off. Caramelized apples and roasted almonds bring serious depth while a touch of salt keeps things interesting. The palate goes big but stays balanced, bright acidity cutting through all that richness like a knife through butter. Oak adds its voice without stealing the show. A white that makes you rethink what whites can do. Drink date: Now-2035. Cellar Selection. Score - 94. (Jeff Porter, Wine Enthusiast, April 1, 2026)
Cherry, raspberry, plum and cranberry keep this Valpolicella Superiore bright, while vanilla, soft leather, tobacco, spice and almond-skin bitterness add detail. It is medium-bodied and dry, with gentle tannins and enough acidity for pasta, aged cheeses or an unfussy Italian red at the table.
Friendly and fruity but also tangy and appetizing, this nervy, light-bodied wine includes 12% cortese grapes. Crisp lemons, limes, kiwi fruit and jicama. Juicy and refreshing with low alcohol. Drink now. Score - 91. (jamessuckling.com, May 30, 2024)
