Ripe, expressive and concentrated, with plum pudding and baked fig supported by firming mineral notes and tight tannins. A warm dusting of Christmas spices adds to the opulence, yet the inner density shows the mineral energy to match the broad frame and richness. Mourvèdre, Grenache and Syrah. Best from 2026 through 2038. Score - 94. (Kristen Bieler, winespectator.com, March 31, 2025)
The 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape Clos De Beauvenir Blanc (52% Roussanne and 48% Grenache Blanc) is along the same lines, if not a touch more focused and precise. Honeyed pears, white flowers, spice, and crushed stone-like minerality all define the aromatics, and it's medium to full-bodied, has a concentrated, layered mouthfeel, and a gorgeous finish. You can safely put this up with the crème de la crème of the vintage, and it should evolve gracefully over the coming decade if well stored. Maturity: 2024-2034. Score - 97. The classic cuvée is the 2021 Châteauneuf Du Pape Blanc, which is based on 43% Roussanne, 30% Clairette, 25% Grenache Blanc, and 2% Bourboulenc. It's brilliant stuff, offering lots of bright lemon and pineapple-like fruits as well as white flowers, honeysuckle, and a kiss of chalky minerality. Beautiful on the palate as well, it's medium to full-bodied, with integrated acidity and just flawless balance. It ranks with the finest whites in the vintage and is well worth seeking out. It should have over a decade of prime drinking, although there's no need to delay gratification. Maturity: 2022-2032. Score - 97. (jebdunnuck.com, Nov. 11, 2022)
