Chardonnay is so expressive in Aÿ, where the aromatics are beautifully lifted and there is plenty of depth. Notes of tart apple and tarte tatin combine in this classical Marne Valley wine. It's mostly red grapes (65 percent), bringing flavors of sour cherry and cherry pit. Chiquet's NV Brut Rosé is laced with dried rose petal, kirsch, orange peel, cinnamon and dried herbs. Readers will find an exotic, mid-weight Champagne with a ton of character. There's ample Pinot intensity and also a slight vegetal note. All those elements come together in a Champagne endowed with striking nuance. This is far from an easygoing quaffer, although I suspect it will do just fine in that role if asked. Dosage is 6 grams per liter. Disgorged: May 2023. Drinking window: 2024-2029. Score - 91.
