This is sourced from old vines, many over 100 years of age, planted in some of the oldest soils on earth. Medium-bodied, concentrated and rich with sophisticated aromas of smoke, chocolate, prune with herbal and cedar tones. A big, bold wine for big, bold meat dishes.
McLaren Vale Grenache gives this bottle a juicy core of raspberry, strawberry, red cherry and plum, edged with cinnamon, herbs and a little orange zest. It feels plush and warming yet not heavy, with modest tannin and enough freshness to suit burgers, lamb or pizza.
There's a sturdiness to this wine. It tastes of blackcurrant and boysenberry with drifts of fragrant herbs - it feels pure and largely unadorned, in a positive way - but the sturdiness of its structure gives it that extra something. It has substance. Drink by: 2030. Score - 92. (Campbell Mattinson, winecompanion.com.au, Aug. 7, 2024)
Bright salmon pink in the glass. Complex and lifted aromas of bramble, red fruits, spice, dried flowers and sherbet. Fleshy, juicy and red fruited on entry, then some very shapely tannins and punchy acidity enter the frame and deliver shape and cut. Very smart rosé. Drink date: 2025-2028. Score - 91. A fleshy yet bright chardonnay that leans into clean lines, frisky stone fruit characters, green mango and green melon with flickers of woody and sweet spices, a touch of herbaceousness and a tart, lemony finish. It has a sense of lightness and simplicity that suggests an open invitation to all chardonnay drinkers. Good, good. Drink from: 2025. Drink by: 2029. Score - 90. The popular Grenache/Shiraz/Mourvèdre (Mataro) blend originated in the Southern Rhône region of France, but the acronym GSM (and the style it denotes) is pure Australia. Australian GSMs are typically led by Shiraz and deliver formidable red fruit and spice flavours. This one has bold red fruit, cherry, red berry, plum, and exotic spices. Enjoy it through 2026.
