Delivers the panoply of ginger, lemon cream, green tea, honeycomb and mango flavors you expect from a world-class dessert wine, combined with a lacy, filigreed texture and mineral underpinning that is rare. So pure and balanced, all the sweetness is absorbed on the finish, leaving an incredibly tender yet exhilarating impression of fresh fruit. Drink now through 2040. Collectible. Score - 99. (James Molesworth, winespectator.com, July 31, 2005)
Intense acidity cuts through the rich and plump profile of this sweet version, creating harmony and focus. Shows a wide range of flavors, with golden raisin, fig and flambéed pear notes on the palate, delivering incredible purity. Very lush and expressive, yet elegant. Long finish. Drink now through 2044. Score - 96. (Aleksandar Zecevic, winespectator.com, Nov. 15, 2019)
The 2018 Vouvray Le Mont Moelleux is clear, deep, pure and flinty on the intense but fine and coolish-mineral nose. Very distinctive! Lush and intense but also pure, vital and tensioned on the palate, this elegant and seductive Le Mont offers a straightforward drive and a highly complex and energetic finish with grip and great mineral tension. A gorgeous, crystalline, persistently salty and tightly woven Chenin with great complexity and energy. Very attractive already today! Tasted in May 2019. Drink date: 2027-2060. Score - 95. (Stephan Reinhardt, robertparker.com, May 31, 2019)
A wine that just hints at its enormous future. It is opulent, rich, rounded, full of quince, spice, layers of honey and apricots. It is gorgeous without losing any freshness. Keep for seven years [then drink into the mid-to-late 2030s]. Cellar Selection. Score - 95. (Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, June 1, 2011)
2001 was supposedly not a good vintage for sweet wine, but this one is rather attractive. Deep golden, and theme carries: all the way through: golden pear, golden apple, grilled pineapple. On the palate, there's apricot nectar and honey balanced by good fresh acidity. At first fruity, then serious chalky minerality at midpalate, a smokiness even a touch of tobacco, with a finish that's austere and precise. 48 grams per liter residual sugar. Drinking window: 2020-2031. Score - 94. (Jason Wilson, vinous.com, July 2020)
It might be delicate but the 2020 Le Haut-Lieu Moelleux is also rather succulent, coating the mouth with its sweet embrace. A combination of white flowers and nectarine creates an appealing perfume. There's a sense of energy that runs through the wine, providing a sense of direction and purpose. The core of sweetness (50-60g/L) doesn't tip over into lushness but is held together by its acidity and structure. Drinking window: 2021-2035. Score - 96. (Rebecca Gibb, MW, vinous.com, March 2021)
