This red is reminiscent of a good Bordeaux, featuring flavors of plum, black currant, cedar, iron and toasty oak. A flash of Mediterranean herbs places it in Tuscany, with tobacco and sweet spices gracing the long aftertaste. Drink now through 2036. Score - 93. (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, Oct. 15, 2024)
Crushed wild berries combine with violet flowers, chalk dust and hints of sweet spice as the 2020 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva evolves in the glass. This is round and supple, with perfumed inner florals and lavender-laced blackberry fruit that slowly saturates toward the close. A tinge of sour citrus mixes with salty minerals and fine tannins as the 2020 tapers off with staining length yet remarkably fresh. This is a fantastic rendition of the vintage. Drinking window: 2025-2034. Score - 93. (Eric Guido, vinous.com, Feb. 4, 2025)
A racy style, this reveals black cherry, blackberry, licorice, spice, iron and underbrush notes. Solid tannins lay the groundwork for future development, while the fruit lingers. Balanced and long, this red picks up more balsamic details on the chalky finish. Best from 2028 through 2047. Score - 95. (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, June 30, 2025)
Laden with bright plums, cherries and smoky earthy aromas which glaze the sturdy structure and intersperse with the gorgeous graphite mineral character. Textured and chalky with a racy acidity and an enduring, elegant finish. Very classy. [Drink into mid-2030s+.] Score - 97. (Decanter World Wine Awards, 2024)
The nose is sweet and comforting, with aromas of vanilla, cherry blossom, wild strawberry and orange peel. The palate brings the more playful sweetness of cherries, strawberries and chocolate vanilla swirl, but a hot streak of acid and a spiced finish provide balance. [Drink into early 2040s+.] Score - 94. (Danielle Callegari, Wine Enthusiast, Sept. 1, 2025)
