From the renowned Gaja family, this wine is an eclectic blend of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc matured for six months in a mix of oak and stainless steel. Bright, fresh and aromatically complex, it features lifted floral notes, peach, citrus, tropical fruit and a pristine minerality. It will drink beautifully till 2027 and beyond.
The 2015 Barbaresco Costa Russi is once again striking in 2015. Vertical and lifted, with tremendous energy, the 2015 has so much to offer. Once the most easygoing of the three Barbaresco crus, Costa Russi has inched up in quality in recent years. The 2015 shows the suave mid-palate and raciness that is so typical of this wine, and yet it also has much more obvious structural underpinnings than once was the case. I can't wait to see how it ages. Drinking Window: 2022-2045. Score - 96. (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Oct. 2018)
Depth, structure and complexity are the hallmarks of Nebbiolo, and this wine certainly delivers but also offers a juicy helping of fresh berry fruits. It is blended from 14 different sites throughout the Barbaresco DOCG with an average of 40 years of vine age. Barbaresco is the wine that launched the Gaja legacy in 1859. Aromatics of spiced orange peel, an assertive bouquet of dried purple florals and a touch of dried mint. The palate balances the savoury character of baking chocolate and fennel seed with an abundance of ripe red berry fruits - notes of strawberry and balsamic, raspberries and fresh mint and dried tobacco. There is ample structure, but a stylistic transition in more recent vintages of Barbaresco makes this wine immediately drinkable. Drinking window: 2023-2045. Score - 95. The 2020 Darmagi is one of the most refined editions of this wine I can remember tasting. Silky, aromatic and light on its feet, the 2020 is all class, all elegance. The 2020 will need time to develop its aromatic and flavor complexity, but the balance is there. I have never been the biggest fan of the Gaja Cabernet Sauvignon. This is an exceptional wine by any measure. Sadly, the vineyard faces some challenges at this point in time. Drinking window: 2025-2040. Score - 96. (Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, Oct. 24, 2023)
A brightly jeweled ruby hue, the 2021 Barbaresco is super-expressive, with loads of wild raspberries that leap from the glass along with notes of strawberries, pressed roses, fresh orange, and violet. As it opens, it evens picks up some spice box, cigar incense, and cherry notes. Crystalline in nature and ripe, this next-level red delivers ripe, sweet tannins, great tension, and fresh, vibrant acidity, without any austerity. A luxury racecar, it's fantastic and possibly the wine of the year. Drink 2025-2055. Score - 97. (Audrey Frick, jebdunnuck.com, May 13, 2024)

The 2019 Gaia & Rey may be one of the finest vintages I have ever tasted of this white. Creamy, ample and expressive, the 2019 is a wonderfully, classy, polished wine. All the elements come together so effortlessly here. Bright and focused, the 2019 is fabulous and I say that as someone who is not especially fond of Italian Chardonnays. Drinking window: 2022-2029. On the market now, the 2022 Langhe Alteni di Brassica is the wine that best symbolizes the Gaja's dedication to exploring the potential of white wines from Piedmont. Indeed, the family has now completed its impressive new winery dedicated to whites in Alta Langa. This Sauvignon Blanc tends to show raw fruit aromas of citrus and passion fruit in its younger years. It leans into aromas of orchard fruit and tends to put on more volume and textural richness with bottle age. The 2022 vintage was a hot year, and the drought conditions that characterize the period between 2020 to 2023 left their mark. 'We are surprised, because although we did expect concentration from 2022, we did not expect this freshness,' says Giovanni Gaja. This wine plays its textural card very nicely and closes with citrusy flavors. One-third of the blend comes from Alta Langa, and that extra acidic zest comes from this new site.
