This is very focused with lots of ripe tannins in the center palate. Very velvety and fine-textured with a pointed character. Medium to full body. Aromas of plums and spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg to the fruit. Bitter citrus. Chewy at the end. Taut muscles. Sophisticated. Needs four or five years to come around. Best after 2030 [and will hold until 2040]. Score - 98. (jamessuckling.com, Feb. 1, 2024)
Enchanting aromas of flowers like violets and lemon blossom, with raspberries and cranberries. Full-bodied yet focused and framed with a structure that builds on your palate and grows and grows, yet it remains fresh and vivid. The tannins are energetic and so, so long. A contemporary jewel. Fascinating. Thoughtful wine. Only the oldest vines are used in this from the 1940s and 1960s. [Drink: 2026-2035+] Score - 99. (jamessuckling.com, Feb. 1, 2024)
Complex on the nose, offering a blend of ripe red berries, nutty minerals, orange-peel and spice. Some savory, almost meaty notes, too. Full, compact and intense, yet there's a graceful feel to the palate, thanks to the really fine web of tannin. Super polish and promise here. Classy. Needs some time. Try from 2025. Score - 96. This is beautifully crafted with ultra-fine tannins with cherries, berries, and flowers. Medium to full body. Lovely length. Very classic in structure. Linear and racy. Tight at the end. Give it four to six years of bottle age. Try after 2027. Score - 97. (jamessuckling.com, July 28, 2023)
Lots of dark berries and flowers plus hints of fresh mushrooms. Full body with ultra-fine tannins and a finish that lasts for minutes. Dense and racy. Perhaps the best Il Bricco ever? [Will cellar for another 8+ years.] Score - 96. (jamessuckling.com, Oct. 19, 2015)
Exquisite aromas of strawberries, cherries, hibiscus and cranberries. Hints of cedar and sandalwood. Very fine and polished with plum, strawberry and cedar aromas as well as an iodine, sea shell and chocolate undertone. Medium body, ultra-fine tannins and a beautiful finish.
