The 2023 Tinto Histórico DV Catena blends 79% Malbec, 15% Bonarda and 6% Petit Verdot from four vineyards across Uco Valley and Primera Zona. Aged for up to 13 months in barrel, its appealing aromatic profile offers orange petit four, white pepper and balsamic notes over black fruit and oak. Slightly indulgent with volume and grip, the palate derives plushness from its aging and subtly active tannins from the vintage. Drinking window: 2025-2034. Score - 92. Incredible aromas of blackberries, hot stones, wet earth and flowers. Full-bodied, it floats across the palate with ultra-fine tannins that melt into the wine. According to winemaker Alejandro Vigil, the name Mundus Bacillus comes from the bacterial world that exists in that small, 1.4-hectare piece of the Adrianna Vineyard, in Gualtallary, about 1,400 meters above sea level and toward the north of the Uco Valley. The symbiosis of that molecular world with the roots and the strong presence of calcium carbonate make this malbec seem to cross the variety's borders and offer a wine that's much more austere wine than its partners in this line (Adrianna Fortuna and River), with tannins that are much chalkier and more severe. The malbec aromas appear in the form of sour cherries, but it also has a good share of mineral, saline aromas that lend it an interesting complexity. The cool 2021 season has only exacerbated the tense and energetic character of this wine, one of the best in a vintage that has been excellent in Mendoza. Add to that that this is the first time since this wine originated in 2013 that it wasn't aged in barrels or oak, but rather in concrete tanks. Score - 100. The 2022 Birth of Cabernet continues the greatness quest of the 2021, blending a majority of Cabernet Sauvignon with 100% whole-cluster fermentation on the smaller 10% amount of Cabernet Franc only. Medium-bodied, it holds a wealth of complex aromas and flavors within its folds, from fresh tobacco to dark chocolate. Hints of pencil shavings and dried herb beckon as well along a continuum of cassis-laden tannins and spiced oak. Drink 2030-2042. Score - 98. (Virginie Boone, jebdunnuck.com, Sept. 2, 2025)

Deep blackberry, black currant and plum define this Uco Valley Malbec, supported by leather, oak, chocolate and a smoky savoury edge. The palate is powerful yet smooth, with dense texture, polished tannins and balanced acidity. Dark fruit and subtle spice carry through a long, expressive finish.

This has an intriguing combination of violets, crushed stones, underripe plums and a subtle touch of pepper on the nose. The palate is firm, with blue fruit, tight focused tannins and impressive concentration and depth. Structured yet long and beautiful. So harmonious. Drink now or hold [into late 2030s]. Score - 95. The single-vineyard 2004 Malbec 'Argentino Vineyard' spent 17 months in new French oak. Remarkably fragrant and complex aromatically, it offers up aromas of wood smoke, creosote, pepper, clove, black cherry, and blackberry. Made in a similar, elegant style, it is the most structured of the three single vineyard wines, needing a minimum of a decade of additional cellaring. It should easily prove to be a 25-40 year wine. Sweet tobacco, cigar box, berries and minerals. It gets a little zesty and citrusy on the nose. Really refined and juicy on the palate with lot of fine tannins. Silky, fluid and linear with a very elegant, soft-spoken finish. 46% cabernet sauvignon from Adrianna vineyard and 44% malbec and 10% cabernet franc from Nicasia vineyard.
