A wine of nuance and complexity, with wonderful layered red cherry, wild strawberry, cassis, light spice, tar and earth. This value-priced Barolo will continue to evolve into the mid-2030s.[Luca Maroni tasting note not available.] Score - 92. (lucamaroni.com, July 19, 2023)
Where northeastern Italy has Pinot Grigio, northwestern Italy has Cortese: a crisp, delicate white grape used for making Gavi. This lovely wine from one of the most trusted producers in northwestern Italian winemaking has zippy acidity and a refreshing taste, finishing with notes of Meyer lemon, ripe apricot, and green almonds. Enjoy with sweet-potato-stuffed pesto ravioli.[Luca Maroni tasting note not available.] Score - 91. (lucamaroni.com, July 19, 2022)
Nicely perfumed with typical dried-cherry, raspberry and walnut aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied with firm, silky tannins and balanced acidity that pushes the spicy-fruit finish forward. Delicious even now, but best from 2023. Score - 92. (jamessuckling.com, June 2, 2021)
