The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva has dried spice over dark fruit and hints of campfire ash. The wine is smooth and velvety in terms of texture with fine, chalky tannins and a drying sensation on the close. Only 5,800 bottles were made. All of these new releases show a high 15% alcohol content, but perhaps you feel the heat most in this Riserva. Drink date: 2025-2035. Score - 93. (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Dec. 14, 2023)

The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Altero (with 8,000 bottles made) represent a clear step up in intensity and balance compared to the thinner annata wine. It also offers a dense nucleus of dark fruit with blackcurrant and plum, along with some background spice, tar and smoke. Altero sources its fruit from I Poggi and Il Vignone at the highest elevations (at 500 meters above sea level). These cool growing spots have served the wine well in this hot vintage in terms of preserving aromas and freshness. Drink date: 2024-2040. Score - 94. (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Feb. 17, 2022)
The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino shows a pretty, mid-weight appearance with shiny dark ruby highlights. The wine offers soft fruit with cherry and wild forest berry at the front. On a second wave, it delivers light spice, earthy mineral and cured tobacco. Both the fruity and the savory sides of the wine are well balanced over solid tannic support and balanced freshness. Drink date: 2025-2040. Score - 94. (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, March 9, 2023)

A deeply savory, almost briny nose of balsamic, seaweed, salt, pepper and black sesame draws just enough sweetness from ripe black cherries. The palate brings more incisive notes of blackberry, along with more salt, more pepper and an emergent earthiness, which, along with symbiotic tannins and acid, create a sensation of easy balance. [This has the potential to evolve into the early 2040s.] Score - 95. (Danielle Callegari, Wine Enthusiast, Sept. 1, 2024)
