Sourced from vines grown in pink limestone soils rich in clay and chalk, this Corvina-based blend is aged for 18-24 months in French oak. It shows bold dark fruit, black pepper, cloves, spice box, dark chocolate and vanilla, with a dash of balsamic adding character.
This Soave Classico shows Garganega at a richer register, combining lemon, lime, pear, peach and tropical fruit with honey, almond, toast and gentle oak. Lees aging brings a creamy, velvety texture, while bright acidity and a nutty finish keep the wine lively beside sushi or richer seafood.
The first single-vineyard created here, in the late 18th century. More black soil than in the Soave Classico. This is very good, meshing the inherent ripeness of the vintage with a mineral-infused pungency. Green apples, quince and stone fruit. Yet the feel is linear, cool and taut, with a growing trajectory of fruit sweetness across the long, energetic finish. A pithy exclamation to close. Drink or hold. Score - 94. Every year Pieropan captures the soul of Soave, Garganega and the vintage in such a pristine way that it keeps us in awe. This vintage shines with aromas of Fuji pears, Anjou apples, lemon blossom and flint. The palate is crisp with green apple skin and lemon zest flavors that give way to toasted almonds, acacia honey and a minerality so deep that you might as well be in a quarry. Drink now-2040. Best Buy. Score - 93. (Jeff Porter, Wine Enthusiast, Oct. 1, 2024)
