Floral aromas accent sturdy notes of grilled meat and almost delicate notes of red berries in the open, approachable 2014 Cote Rotie La Mouline. Medium to full-bodied, it shows great purity and a supple, silky, classic feel. It's built more on elegance and complexity than power, with those floral, herbal notes leaving a long, silky impression on the finish. Drink: 2020-2035. Score - 97. (Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com, Oct. 31, 2018)
The 2021 C么te-R么tie La Turque is highly representative of its terroir despite the challenges of the vintage. Unfurling with aromas of dark fruits, spices, cinnamon, iris and blackberries, it is full-bodied, concentrated and firmly structured, with a deep core of fruit framed by powdery tannins, concluding with a mocha-inflected finish. While it may lack the sheer opulence of sunnier years, it retains impressive depth and authority, and its terroir expression should become even more articulate with time in the cellar. Drink date: 2031-2046. Score - 96. (Yohan Castaing, robertparker.com, Nov. 20, 2025)
A stunning, modern-styled version, with scintillating raspberry pur茅e, plum confiture and blackberry reduction flavors gliding over velvety but copious tannins. Alluring warm ganache and fruitcake accents gild the finish, which sails on and on. Best from 2020 through 2045. Score - 98. (James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, Sept. 30, 2017)
The 2018 C么te R么tie La Turque offers meatier, more savory, mineral-driven aromatics yet has an incredible core of pure cassis and darker fruits. A straight-up massive wine, it has a stacked mid-palate, terrific freshness, and again, a purity of fruit that's just off the chart. Despite its overall size and richness, it's weightless and as graceful as a ballerina. It always needs more time to come around compared to the La Mouline and generally starts to drink beautifully a decade after the vintage. Score - 98-100. (jebdunnuck.com, Feb. 16, 2022)
I loved the 2017 C么te R么tie La Turque, which shows the sunny warmth of the vintage while staying balanced, pure, and light on its feet. Awesome notes of ripe black fruits, chocolate, spice box, and incense emerge from the glass and it's full-bodied, has building tannins, a weightless texture, and a monster of a finish. This quintessential La Turque will deliver plenty of charm in its youth, yet benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age, and age for 30-35 years as well. Score - 97-100. (jebdunnuck.com, Dec. 12, 2019)
The 2017 Cote Rotie La Mouline delivers waves of joyous blueberry fruit, accented by complex notions of violets and dried spices. It's full-bodied yet supple and plush, showing incredible balance, complexity and texture at this early stage of its development. Drink date: 2023-2040. Score - 97-99. (Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com, Dec. 19, 2019)
The 2019 C么te R么tie La Mouline is a bigger, richer C么te R么tie. Co-fermented with a solid chuck of Viognier and around 85% destemmed (the same as the La Turque), this full-bodied effort has a kaleidoscope-like bouquet of bloody black and blue fruits, tapenade, salted meat, woodsmoke, and a touch of violets. This cuv茅e is always an exotic wine, and the 2019 is no exception, offering full-bodied richness, a layered, multi-dimensional mouthfeel, plenty of structure, and a great finish. Score - 97-100. (jebdunnuck.com, Dec. 15, 2022)
Now that it's in bottle, the 2014 Cote Rotie La Turque has exceeded all of my earlier expectations. It's got those classic C么te R么tie elements on the nose of smoked bacon, olives and violets, seamlessly entwined with supple tannins and raspberry fruit. Medium to full-bodied, it's silky and fine, showing tremendous length and complexity on the finish. On this occasion, La Turque came to the head of the class as the most approachable, exciting and elegant of the three La Las. Drink 2018-2035. Score - 98. (Joe Czerwinski, robertparker.com, Oct. 31, 2018)
Bottled in February 2024, the 2020 C么te-R么tie La Mouline is a masterpiece. Crushed violet, black cherry, graphite, olive tapenade, crushed rocks and cedar notes race out of the glass. A shot of espresso and minty shadings add further complexity. Stacked with ample flavor concentration and impressive depth, the 2020 hails from the glass with a vivid, energetic lift that races through from start to finish. Moreover, the round, sweet and gently enveloping tannins are remarkably refined and integrated for such a young wine, suggesting that the 2020 won't require as much time to come around as usual. In short, this is a brilliant La Mouline that Guigal enthusiasts will want to snatch up. Drinking window: 2030-2050. Score - 98. (Nicolas Greinacher, vinous.com, Jan. 23, 2025)
The 2020 C么te R么tie La Turque brings a touch more mid-palate density and offers a straighter, more inward bouquet of cassis, graphite, smoked meats, and iron, with subtle gamey, bloody background nuances. It too is full-bodied and has a concentrated, structured mouthfeel, remarkable purity, and a killer finish. Score - 97-99. (jebdunnuck.com, March 28, 2024)
