The grapes for this cross-California Cabernet are sourced from prime sites in places such as Napa, Lake County, Monterey, Lodi, Paso Robles, Santa Ynez and Sonoma. Ripe and velvety with an alluring chocolate, smoky oak and prune fruit with herbal and cedar notes. A brilliant option for lamb burgers, slow-cooked red meats or a charcuterie platter.
Big but well balanced, this full-bodied wine shades its rich plum, berry and beef flavors with dill and white-pepper nuances and wraps them in velvety tannins for a rich mouthfeel. Score - 90. (Jim Gordon, Wine Enthusiast, July 1, 2022)
Brilliant yellow gold colour. Tropical fruit aromas with notes of ripe peach and pineapple and apple with notes of vanilla and honey. Generous fruit on the midpalate with good minerality and refreshing acidity, full bodied with a lively finish. Pair with creamy pasta and corn chowder. Score - 92 WE (Feb. /Mar. 2023).
This new wine from Joel Gott is crafted to reflect an old-school Napa Chardonnay and features a traditional oaky style. It was fermented and aged in French oak. The 2021 season was consistent without any heat spikes, producing small, concentrated fruit clusters that translated to complex, intense apple and mineral tones. Look for a long, balanced wine, with toasted oak and spice on the close.
A dense blackberry aroma is lifted by loam, cocoa and mint on the nose of this bottling. There are firm tannins framing the sip, which is cohesive and well integrated, with flavors of toasted wood, cocoa spice and rich dark berry. Score - 92. (Matt Kettman, Wine Enthusiast, March 1, 2022)
This is a fruitier expression of Napa with red and black cherries, dried strawberries, currants, red peppers and olives. Some sweet spices, too. This limited-release wine is inspired by the very best of California winemaking and traditional Kentucky craft distilling. It's made from Cabernet Sauvignon with splashes of Merlot and Petit Verdot and is aged for three months in barrels previously used to make six-year-old Kentucky Bourbon. Expect ripe currant, blueberry and blackberry fruit with touches of sweet spices and caramel, and pair with brisket.
This might not be the ultimate Napa Valley red, but it has a ton of fresh blackberries and a very satisfying balance of supple tannins and lively acidity that lift the full body and give it a clean, rather food-friendly finish. Drink now. Score - 92. (jamessuckling.com, May 3, 2019)
