The San Felice 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Poggio Rosso is distinguished by its precision and its elegance. There is a sharp mineral tone that frames the entire bouquet, and that recalls red stone or rusty nail. At the wine's core is blackberry, ripe cherry, sweet tobacco and toasted spice. The balance between the primary fruit and those aged tones derived from the oak is spot-on. Precision farming and careful fruit selection are the secrets of this success. Drink date: 2024-2030. Score - 94. (Monica Larner, robertparker.com, Feb. 9, 2023)
A sleek red, with solid grip wrapped around dark flavors of black cherry, blueberry and earth. Vibrant, with a slight burr to the chalky tannins on the iron-infused finish. Sangiovese, Pugnitello, Malvasia Nera, Ciliegiolo, Mazzese and Abrusco. Best from 2025 through 2042. Score - 93. (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, Oct. 31, 2023)
