The Bouvier team manages the vines and then buys the grapes. An even mid crimson to purple. Ripely floral, with elegant complexities. Fine boned with plenty of fruit, white pepper behind, lifted and complex with medium plus length. Drink from 2032-2042. Tasted Jan. 2024. Score - 94-95. (Jasper Morris, MW, insideburgundy.com, March 2024)
Located right in the middle of the appellation, Fonteny is not one of Gevrey's most famous grands crus, but often over-delivers in the glass. This is a case in point, showing a combination of freshness, intensity and precision framed by 20% new oak. Drinking window: 2023-2027. Score - 93. (Tim Atkin, MW, decanter.com, Nov. 7, 2018)
Another great Longeroies from producer René Bouvier who knows how to fully reveal the nobility of this cru vineyard located at the north end of the appellation along with the Clos du Roi site. Sour cherry, macerated fruit and bramble on the palate. Lots of tension, flavourful and mouth-watering. Score - 93. (bettanedesseauve.com, undated)
Founded in 1910, Domaine Bouvier has been farmed organically since 2009, though they have not sought certification. Their holdings include a large percentage of old vines averaging more than 50 years of age. This lively, evocative wine shows dark fruit, plum, spice, and earthy minerality. Hold until 2023 or 2024 and then drink through 2035+.
