Made from fruit grown in the Wairau Plains and the Omaka Valley, this is supremely youthful with its initial note of lemon- and smoke-bathed sweetcorn kernel. Supple smokiness speaks of the oak ageing, while the palate plunges deep into immense juiciness, again recalling that tropical edge of pineapple juiciness. All is here, with such fill, such brightness. This is both super-smooth and utterly lip-smacking. Exquisite tension for now is bedded softly in creamy oak. Drinking window: 2030-2055. Score - 95. A very attractive nose of lemon sherbet, rosemary, fresh thyme and grated nutmeg. Medium-bodied and silky. So fresh and seamless on the palate with subtle tannins. Chamomile and wet stone. Subtle, nuanced and delicious. An elegant sauvignon blanc. Drink or hold. Ranked #32 in James Suckling's Top 100 Wines of New Zealand in 2022. Score - 95. (jamessuckling.com, Dec. 11, 2022)

Aromatic and evocative, bursting with pink grapefruit, tropical fruits, elderflower, lemongrass and snow pea, with a creamy lees undertow and flashes of herbal/mineral notes. A rich, mouth-filling palate, generous in tropical fruit and citrussy acid drive, which tightens up to a nicely crisply saline, long dry finish. Lovely now but fruit intensity and balance suggest this will mellow nicely in the bottle too. Richelle Tyney joined Greywacke in 2021, bringing steady-handed finesse to an already very smart collection of wines. Drinking window: 2025-2032. Score - 95. Quite a reductive start, needs a bit of air to get going but then there are plenty of layered, complex aromatics - black cherry, plum and bramble, subtle herb, earth forest floor and rye bread. The palate is equally layered and surprisingly elegant given the brooding density, with a tight-knit core of wild cherry, tamarillo and earth, dusty, fine tannins and a long, savoury finish.
