A classic blend of mostly Mourv猫dre, the 2015 Ch芒teauneuf-du-Pape Hommage A Jacques Perrin is a blockbuster that's certainly the wine of the vintage. Possessing an inky purple color to go with an incredible bouquet of blueberries, garrigue, olive tapenade, beef blood and pepper, it's rich, full-bodied, powerful and layered, with sweet, ripe tannin. It's a more approachable example of this cuv茅e that past vintages, yet will keep for 3 decades or more. Score - 99. (jebdunnuck.com, Oct. 19, 2017)
A remarkably sweet impression on the nose, sweet red fruits, violets, cocoa, sugared almonds and tobacco. It's open, complex and ready to go. Rounded and generous, mouthfilling fruit, the acidity is remarkably high considering the heat of the vintage, and doesn't feel entirely harmonious. Long finish, the sweetness of the fruit matched by quite strident, brisk acidity. Very fine, ripe, smooth tannins - they're almost imperceptible, but give grip on the finish. Very good indeed with great elegance, even if the alcohol is a little raised. Drinking window: 2020-2037. Part of Ch芒teau de Beaucastel Hommage 脿 Jacques Perrin complete vertical: 1989-2017. Score - 98. (Matt Walls, decanter.com, April 6, 2020)
This is a stunning new release from Fleur de Miraval. The best year. Aromas of peaches and flowers with cotton candy and citrus. Hints of cherries and other berries. It's full-bodied with very fine bubbles and a creamy texture. It's fluffy on the palate, like feathers floating through the air. Salted caramel and sweet pastry in the aftertaste. Some earthy, soil character, too. So complex. This has been made from a base of the 2018 vintage. 25% pinot noir and 75% chardonnay grand cru (50% is proprietary reserve blends from 2007 onwards, and 25% is from opened bottles of blanc de blancs Champagne, dating back to 1998) This is really unique. Dry at the end with 4g dosage. Drink now or hold [through early 2030s]. Score - 97. (jamessuckling.com, July 31, 2023)
Few wines can boast the pedigree found here. It's lush, rich, complex and energetic, with layers of raspberry, plum, black cherry, garrigue and spice. A winning addition to any table or cellar, this will evolve for upwards of two decades. Serve tonight with braised beef or lamb.
A soft, rounded, pure expression of Grenache. The acidity here is lower than most, but still in balance. There's lovely softness to the plentiful ripe tannins. It's a harmonious, gourmand and velvety style. From very old pre-phylloxera vines grown on sand close to the village of Gigondas, just six barrels made. Drinking window: 2023-2032. Score - 94. (Matt Walls, decanter.com, Dec. 4, 2022)
Very dark in the glass. Wonderful cassis aromas. It's a rounded and generous style on the palate, with really expressive fruit. Good acidity and length, and the tannins are well tamed. Half the Grenache is whole-bunch fermented, as well as all the Syrah. Well balanced, this is very successful for a 2021 Gigondas. Vineyards around the Clos on the southern edge of the village, from a 4ha parcel. Drinking window: 2026-2032. Score - 94. (Matt Walls, decanter.com, Dec. 4, 2022)
Distinctly spicy style, showing bacon, smoke, black pepper and cassis. The oak is quite present, but it works well. The tannins are quite typically Vinsobres. Strict, but such depth of fruit. Very good vintage of this cuv茅e. Such vibrant fruit and texture, with great acidity. All whole bunch, co-fermented then aged in new demi-muids. Pre-phylloxera Syrah, most of the Grenache is as well. Drinking window: 2027-2038. Score - 94. (Matt Walls, decanter.com, Dec. 4, 2022)
Perrin is among the finest producers in the southern Rh么ne. Some grapes for this rich, age-worthy red come from their legendary Ch芒teau de Beaucastel estate. Drink over the next decade with roast duck, roast lamb or grilled game meats.
A well-crafted Gigondas with wild strawberries, currants, raspberries, herbs and baking spices on the nose. Medium to full body with fine tannins. Harmonious and well-composed with a lively, peppery and developing finish. Drink or hold [into early 2030s]. Score - 93. (jamessuckling.com, Nov. 20, 2023)
