This is sourced entirely from estate vineyards - 25% Churchside, and 75% South Clos. It was whole cluster pressed, fermented, then aged in French oak barrels, less than 10% new, and underwent full malolactic fermentation in barrel. Such a profoundly fresh nose of saline and oyster shells with apples, bergamot, white flowers, Meyer lemon and elegant spice notes. It's vibrant and pretty on the palate ... the stone fruits are on the ripe side, with stony/flinty minerality, a silky texture and a long, fresh, lifted finish. Really nice Chardonnay. Score - 93. A finely crafted, floral cool-climate Chardonnay that was 50% fermented in stainless steel and 50% fermented in French oak. It's bursting with fresh peach, pear, apple, melon, tropical fruit and toasty oak atop a refined stone-laced minerality. Try it with roast pork or mushroom risotto.
This is a very typical County pinot with pale garnet colour and a high toned nose of sour cherry jam, a sheen of vanilla and gentle oak spicing. Perhaps redcurrant as well. It is light bodied, nicely glossy and well balanced with fresh, sourish acidity, and very fine tannin. Aromas and flavours have very good presence and length. Ready to enjoy. Chill a little bit. Tasted Sept 2023. Score - 90. (David Lawrason, winealign.com)
I was hugely impressed by the energy, balance and completeness of this newly released pinot. It is from the maturing ridgetop vineyard in a vintage being hailed for its ripeness if lower crop yields. It is very lifted and fragrant with classic red cherry, florals, forest floor and French oak spicing (large 60HL barrels for 18 months). It is classically light to medium weight, very even and effortless but not at all soft. Tannins are finely weighted as well. The length is excellent to outstanding. Tasted February 2025. Score - 94. Made in stainless steel to maximize freshness and vibrancy, this is a gorgeously floral Chardonnay with notions of spring flowers, anise, citrus and wet stone. It's ripe and round on the palate with a zesty, lingering finish. Pair with acorn squash ravioli, roast chicken and potatoes, or pan-seared Arctic char.
This is a lovely and fresh, juicy and ripe, highly flavourful pinot gris from Closson's Niagara range, one of the best yet I have to say. I love the yellow-fleshed orchard fruit flavours with lemon-lime zest, the juicy acids allied to a mid-weight frame, the impressive concentration in the category. A wine to enjoy over the near term I'd say. Tasted June 2024. Score - 90. (John Szabo, MS, winealign.com)
