As a pink wine, Tempranillo showcases vivacious aromas and flavours of tangy red cherry and freshly picked herbs, with just a gentle tug of tannins on the palate. A brilliant food wine, this will pair beautifully with everything from seafood to sausages to summer salads.
97% Tempranillo, 2% Graciano, 1% Mazuelo. Immaculately defined cherry, blackberry and mulberry fruit underpinned by a savoury oak complexity. Very polished and pure with a fine backbone of acidity and super raspberry finish. Score - 95. (Decanter World Wine Awards, 2024)
This plush, complex vermouth has a pleasing, piercing aromatic character. It offers intense exotic spices, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, dried fig and cocoa. Sip it over ice or use it in a cocktail.
Outrageously concentrated, sweet, liquid prune, honey, maple syrup and treacle-chocolate-flavoured PX here. Wow, it's hard to imagine stuffing more flavour into this wine - it's like drinking syrup, yet has excellent acids and shape is provided by some phenolic drag. Length is exceptional as well. Sweet as it is (and it is extremely sweet), this is an exceptional experience. What more can one ask for in this style of wine? Tasted October 2021. Score - 95. (John Szabo, MS, winealign.com)
This British take on the Andalusian Rebujito cocktail (a blending of sherry and lemon-lime soda) combines Croft Fino sherry with elderflower, lemon and mint into a delightful sparkling cocktail. Clean, refreshing and complex, this ready-to-pour cocktail is the perfect host gift or celebration starter!
This blend of Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo is aged in a combination of French and American oak. It's deep, dark and spicy, with dried flowers, sandalwood, prune, vanilla and toast. Savour it with blackened steaks or smoky burgers.
Chinchon is a traditional Spanish anise liqueur that has been produced in the town of Chinchon since the 17 th C, it is dry and uses high-quality natural ingredients. The aromas of the aniseed essential oils are clean and intense on the nose finishing dry on the palate. Serve as an aperitif or after meals as a digestive.
Another arch-classic bottling from González-Byass, medium-sweet as advertised, balanced by the pleasantly bitter-nutty-caramelized flavours of such long, oxidative barrel ageing. The finish lingers on and on, and complexity is excellent in the category. Enjoy lightly chilled with cured ham and hard cheeses, or slow-braised game dishes with lots of matching umami. Tasted January 2024. Score - 91. (John Szabo, MS, winealign.com)
Though not believed to be native to Rueda, Verdejo has truly flourished there and is grown virtually nowhere else. It's often blended with Viura or Sauvignon Blanc, but this example is 100% Verdejo. It shows pear, grapefruit, tropical fruit, and garden herbs and is ideal for sushi.
