Only made in the best vintages, the Tasca Conti d'Almerita 2016 Sicilia Contea di Sclafani Riserva del Conte Tenuta Regaleali sees its fruit sourced from the Vigneto San Lucio in a classic winemaking subzone on the western side of the island. Made with a blend of the indigenous grapes Perricone and Nero d'Avola, the wine is streamlined and elegant with enormous persistence that can be counted in many long minutes. The bouquet shows dried cherry, plum, leather and a touch of scorched earth or grilled rosemary. This is a spectacular wine that sits at the top of the Sicilian wine pyramid. So much treacle tart to this red but then tons of florals such as jasmine, violets and then mulberries and hints of vanilla. Full body and a remarkably juicy and tangy center palate of forest fruits, which are ripe but run clean thanks to no shortage of refreshing acidity. Long and fruit-forward yet somehow minerally on the finish. A triumph! Perhaps the best nero d'avola blend ever made. Delicious now. [Drink: 2024-2030+] Score - 96.
