Partially aged in large oak barrels, this Champagne is richly textured and full of white fruits, with a strong, crisp line of acidity. The wood has softened the intense acidity and added some toast, which has been emphasized by the up to eight years in bottle. Drink now [through 2025]. Editors' Choice. Score - 92. (Translated from the French) Delicious and seductive in both aromas and flavours. Fruity notes prevail, with hints of jammy red fruit that seem light thanks to the fine bubbles. A moderate sweetness entices, with accents of red currant jelly, but the Champagne remains straightforward and vivacious. Balanced. Score - 94. (Terre de Vins, Dec. 2023)
A strong bottling of this well-priced champagne (Lot# 61K-1401G - check the back label), Gardet's latest cuvée Saint Flavy is a properly toasty and autolytic example, but also vibrant, crisp and fresh and particularly dry. I like the balance on the palate, the succulent acids, and the impressive depth of flavour. You won't find much better than this from champagne at this price to be sure. Tasted March 2022. Score - 91. (John Szabo, MS, winealign.com)
