The 2019 Chardonnay Didacus is a pretty golden color. An exotic mix of crushed yellow apples and hints of peach is complemented by almond extract, vanilla custard and sweet smoke. This is seamlessly silky and nearly oily in feel, communicating undeniable elegance, with confectionery spices mixing with saline-minerals to create a push and pull of tension, as ripe orchard fruits settle upon the senses. The 2019 finishes impossibly long with a perfectly integrated hint of oak that lingers, which is more of an accent than a distraction, as a bitter trace of hazelnut slowly fades. This classy rendition of Didacus ranks among the top Italian Chardonnays that I've ever tasted. Drinking window: 2023-2029. Score - 96. (Eric Guido, vinous.com, June 2022)
There's a creamy richness to this elegant white, which retains fine form, with good focus and lively tension from the integrated acidity. Apricot tart, baked pineapple and creamed hazelnut flavors glide across the palate alongside accents of preserved lemon, vanilla, broom and fleur de sel and ring out through the lasting finish. Drink now through 2032. Score - 93. (Alison Napjus, winespectator.com, Oct. 15, 2024)
Red fruit, exotic spice and blue flower aromas mingle together on this elegant wine. Made entirely with Nero d'Avola, the focused, linear palate evokes black cherry, pomegranate, star anise and wild herb framed in taut, fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity. It has great tension and will be even better in a few more years. Score - 93. (Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, Dec. 1, 2018)
Tre Bicchieri for the Maroccolli '18, an exemplary Mediterranean syrah that offers up elegant mineral notes of clay and spicy pepper alongside ripe berries, sensations that reemerge on a full, pulpy palate, commanding and very persistent. Score - 3 Glasses (out of 3). (Gambero Rosso Italian Wines, 2023)
The Carricante grapes for this wine are grown on the rich black lava soil of southeast Sicily. Subtle and delicate aromas of dried citrus fruits with fresh herbal, floral and mineral notes. The palate is robust with warm citrus fruit, lively herbaceousness and salinity. Enjoy it with grilled fish and shellfish.
The Nerello Mascalese grapes for this wine are grown in black soil, which was once covered by lava. Intense aromas feature notes of minerals, herbs and spice followed by red berries and hibiscus. Wild berry flavours and a stony minerality bring a smooth mouthfeel with moderate tannins. Pair with eggplant parmigiana.
Fragrant, with floral, spice and mineral accents, this shows a creamy range of plumped cherry and warmed fig fruit flavors that wrap lightly chewy tannins. Fresh, lingering finish. Nero d'Avola and Merlot. Drink now through 2027. Score - 90. (Alison Napjus, winespectator.com, Feb. 29, 2024)
This Sicilian red is produced using the indigenous Nero d'Avola and Frappato varietals, grown organically in the region of Vittoria. Anticipate aromas of red fruit with notes of strawberry, mulberry and pomegranate, leading to flavours of sweet cherries and spice on the refreshing palate. Pair with tomato-based dishes.
Hibiscus tea, freeze-dried strawberry, wild cherries, warm bricks and candied orange peel on the nose meet a subtle earthiness. On the palate, a squeeze of orange and a sprinkle of salt underscore both the sweetness and the astringency of the fruit, while tannins and acid sit back and relax. Score - 92.
