This stunning 2021 Margaret River Chardonnay Art Series shows beautiful racy lines with a slick and seamless style as it bursts with toasted cashews, melon, lemon peel and pith aromas lifted by mandarin rind. Fabulous fruit density with immense power yet retaining refinement and shape over a long, strong finish. Energetic, vibrant, perfectly formed and built for the long haul. Drinking window: 2030-2044. Score - 98. (Angus Hughson, vinous.com, May 16, 2024)
Immediately captivating: the nose is vibrant and energetic, while simultaneously the epitome of elegance and poise with restrained fruit power. This is a silk evening gown of a wine: form-fitting, precisely tailored, mellifluous and effortlessly chic. Abundant in aromatics and lifted perfume, fine red fruits include wild strawberry tip, bramble and just-ripe blackcurrant, alongside hints of piquancy: Szechwan pepper, clove and a fine dusting of deep, lightly toasted cocoa powder. There's a charismatic iodine weave, the savoury and slightly saline minerality proving a foil to both the fruit flesh and the floral hues. Displaying extremely fine-grained tannins, it's firm, focused and delicate, with a graphite line, fresh acidity and plenty that will reveal itself in good time. Tasted pre-release. Drinking window: 2024-2046. Score - 96. (Cassandra Charlick, decanter.com, May 5, 2024)
A 20% inclusion of whole bunches during fermentation has played a strong hand in elevating this beautiful example of the quality seen in the 2019 vintage. It has such life and vibrancy and that is due in a large part to that whole bunch inclusion. Brilliant bright colour with hues of crimson and purple on the fringes. The palate is in that medium zone with an effortlessly graceful ease about it. Spicy and perfumed with a mix of cherry and plum. Oak, which is a mix of one, two year old and new oak is brilliantly managed to gently coax all that is good from this variety. Love the texture and the long focused chalky feel in the mouth. Drink: 2022-2034. Score - 96. (Ray Jordan, winepilot.com, March 2022)
The nose is perfumed and inviting, with aromas of blood plums, dark cherries and licorice. The palate is medium- to full-bodied with notes of boysenberries, dried herbs and baking spice framed by a well-structured tannin profile. Very giving and lush. Delicious. Drink or hold. Score - 93. A neatly crafted medium bodied shiraz that has a tiny percentage of malbec. It's bright as a button with lifted berry fruits displaying a light dusting of spices and a little savoury influence. The palate is smooth and seamlessly brought together with the fruit pretty and delicious. Nice earlier drinking wine. Score - 91. (Ray Jordan, rayjordanwine.com.au, undated)
