A beam of acidity cuts through this scintillating red, lending energy and driving its cherry, strawberry, mineral and spice flavors. Both ripe and supple, this firms up while playing out on the long and lively finish. All of the elements add up to great potential in 5-7 years. Best from 2027 through 2047. Score - 96. The aromas and structure to this single vineyard Chianti Classico are something else this year. The orange-peel, meat and cherry aromas are lifted and spirited. It's medium-bodied with firm, chewy tannins that are dusty and fine-grained. Structured and sturdy with a granite-like presence. Try after 2025, but impressive to taste. [This wine has the stuff to evolve into the late 2030s.] Score - 98. (jamessuckling.com, Dec. 1, 2022)
Bright and floral on the nose with orange blossom to the vivid sliced cherry character. Medium body, with ultra-fine tannins that are supple and caressing. Gorgeous cooked peach pie and cherry aftertaste. Delicious to taste now, but better in 2028. Score - 96. (jamessuckling.com, Aug. 7, 2023)
Very perfumed with hibiscus flower, citrus and fresh cherry aromas that follow through to a medium body with layers of fruit and very fine tannins that go on and on. Totally integrated. A joy to taste and drink but will improve beautifully in the bottle. All about harmony. Drink or hold [fthrough late 2030s]. Score - 97. (jamessuckling.com, Nov. 28, 2023)
Well-marked by new oak, offering cherry, plum, iron and spice aromas and flavors, this red is concentrated and vibrant. Delivers dense and interwoven tannins, with a lingering aftertaste echoing cherry, mineral and spice. Best from 2025 through 2040. Score - 93. (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, Sept. 30, 2022)
There's a beautiful expression of fruit in this well-defined red, revealing cherry, pomegranate, earth and iron notes, with a hint of Tuscan scrub. Verges on rich yet is underscored by vibrant acidity and refined tannins. Shows terrific balance and length. Best from 2026 through 2043. Score - 93. (Bruce Sanderson, winespectator.com, Oct. 31, 2024)
This wine is mostly Sangiovese, with some Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The 2020 vintage saw little precipitation, and careful vineyard management combined with perfect harvest conditions allowed winemakers to take great advantage of the stress the vines were placed under, resulting in wines of excellent concentration and intensity. This one is big and bold, with ripe fruit, tobacco, spice, and a refined savoury character.
Barone Ricasoli is the oldest winery in Italy. It is here, in 1872, that the blend for Chianti was created. This one is ripe and layered, with red fruit, chestnut, floral notes, cedar and a fresh, food-friendly acidity. Pair this classic with another: try a Tuscan slow-simmered ragu al chingiale, or your favourite meaty pasta.
Always a delight, this rosé is fermented in stainless steel and delivers a lithe, light character, with fresh strawberry, apricot, and a delicate minerality. Enjoy it with grilled prawns dressed with lemon, chili and oregano.
