Lots of ripe fruit and no shortage of wood with a drying sensation on the palate. Lacks a bit of verve and extension, also elasticity. That said there is flesh and pulpiness to this substantial chardonnay. Drink 2024-2026. Tasted blind at NWAC 24, June 2024. Score - 89. (Michael Godel, winealign.com)
Just the pinot noir facts for Rosé as sparkling with a qualifiable track record in Ontario. A Prince Edward County grown and raised joyous one that sees 24 months on the lees. Memory recalls that salmon hue and yet the eyes do not lie with what now looks more like Tavel and so a wild arctic char feels to be more of the better descriptor. Most of the parts and notes feel elevated; colour, saltiness, acidity and sweetness for what now acts like a sparkling blush with more excitement and character. Something gained is also something lost, like delicasse and demure. In any case this makes a new case as a much more gregarious special occasion wine. Drink 2024-2026. Tasted August 2024. Score - 89. On the nose it's all golden apple fruit, pain au chocolate and nutty autolytics. The palate delivers immediately with a pithy tension that supports cascading layers of creamy spice and ripe orchard fruit. Long and somehow continually regenerating, it finishes fresh, precise and perfectly textural. Gold Medal winner at the 2024 National Wine Awards of Canada. Score - 92. (Brent Muller, winealign.com)
A fruity and off-dry wine offering lemon citrus, honey and peach aromas and flavours. Its sweetness is balanced by the zesty and dynamic acidity making this a thoroughly enjoyable wine. Pair with spicy Thai dishes.
A common practice in cool climates like ours is to carefully bury or 'hill-up' vines to protect them from potentially damaging winter cold. Named for this process, Huff's pinot gris is a punchy example with citrus aromas, a floral character and fresh minerality. Pair with pork with apple relish or roasted red peppers.
The founders of Huff Estates recognized the potential of PEC early on and opened their doors in 2002. Their rosé is made entirely with cabernet franc and features a deep salmon colour. It presents tart cranberry and pomegranate aromas and flavours, and an elegant finish. Pair with green olive tapenade or ratatouille.
Huff Estates' modern and stylish winery sits atop a hill, which allows freshly pressed juice to be gravity fed into a temperature-controlled barrel cellar. This rosé has aromas of wild strawberry and bright cherry. The candied red apple flavours and crisp finish will pair perfectly with most seafood and shellfish dishes.
The grapes for this wine are sourced 80% from Niagara and 20% from Prince Edward County, all vinified at Huff's facility in PEC. This ripe, balanced merlot shows notes of black cherry, plum, and allspice. It is aged in stainless steel to retain varietal character and fruitiness. Pair with roast beef or meatloaf.
