A pale, gently textured Pinot Gris shows pear, lime, peach and honeysuckle, with mineral and flinty notes giving it shape. Some bottles lean floral and rounded, others a little muted, but the wine stays fresh, lightly creamy and easy to match with tempura or roasted vegetables.
Intensely expressed and instantly appealing, the wine shows green rockmelon, feijoa, kiwifruit and lemon peel aromas, leading to a splendidly flavoursome palate that's filled with juicy fruit flavours with lively acidity, finishing persistent and delicious. At its best: now to 2027. Score - 94. (Sam Kim, wineorbit.co.nz, Aug. 2024)
Gisborne Chardonnay comes across mellow and tropical, with pineapple, yellow apple, lemon and pear accented by butter, vanilla, almond and light oak. A slightly oily texture gives richness, while citrus acidity keeps it tidy. Pour it with roast chicken, cheese plates or creamy appetizers.
Sweetly fruited and inviting, the bouquet shows dark plum, wild strawberry, olive, and roasted nut aromas, followed by a silky-smooth palate that's succulent and supple. Beautifully rounded and flowing to a lengthy, refined finish. At its best: now to 2030. Score - 93. (Sam Kim, wineorbit.co.nz, Sept. 2025)
