The plan is to shift the source of this pure Tempranillo red to the Rioja Alavesa in future, butthe 2019 release still contains a 10% component from the Rioja Alta sub-region. Aged in 50%new American and French oak, this is a sweet, spicy, well-structured Reserva with red berryand coconut flavours, some tannic backbone and a balsamic lift. Drink date: 2025-2031. Score - 92. (Tim Atkin, MW, timatkin.com, Rioja Special Report 2025)
Really sophisticated aromas of blackberries, plums, crushed stones, concrete, wet earth and fresh mushrooms. Complex is the word. It's full-bodied with creamy, polished tannins that are caressing and precise and envelop the palate. Tight at the finish, suggesting a wine for the cellar. Give this at least three or four years to come together and shows its true potential. Score - 95. (jamessuckling.com, March 31, 2022)
