This domaine has been certified organic since 1995 and biodynamic since 2005. The 2015 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru expresses the clarity, finesse and majesty for which the vineyard is renowned.
Here the nose is actually quite similar to that of the Perri猫res save for being ever-so-slightly riper and displaying more overt white orchard fruit influence. There is the same exquisite purity to the strikingly intense and beautifully well-detailed flavors that ooze both a fine minerality and plenty of dry extract that imparts a wonderfully seductive texture to the explosive yet refined finish. The only nit, at least at present, is that the depth isn't quite as impressive though this obviously may very well change with time. Drink date: 2021+. Outstanding. Score - 91-93. Pale lemon colour. I love the bouquet here, very refined, very Corton-Charlemagne, not at all over ripe, excellent intensity through the middle of the palate, steely with some lime blossom notes. textbook example! 13.4% alcohol. Score - 94-97. (Jasper Morris, MW, insideburgundy.com, Dec. 2021)
Pale mid lemon, some bacon fat on the nose. There is plenty of volume on the palate, good acidity, some citrus notes too, complex, fairly detailed and persistent with a good mineral thread. Exemplary. 13.2% alcohol. Score - 92-94. (Jasper Morris, MW, insideburgundy.com, Dec. 2021)
The purity of yellow citrus fruit here is stunning and there's a distinctive, chalky wedge to the nose, too. The palate has a very elegant, sleek and contained feel with a strong line of acidity and creamy, lees-derived weight. This has the DNA of power and the length is exceptional. Regal. Try in 2022. Score - 95-96. (jamessuckling.com, Jan. 26, 2019)
Bright clean yellow. Reductive and toastily oaked together. Plenty of power, oak having a slightly dry effect but there is enough fruit to surmount this in due course. Quite a powerful beast for the vintage, plenty to follow here with all the right constituent parts. 60% down compared to 2022. Drink from 2027-2035. Score - 93-95. (Jasper Morris, MW, insideburgundy.com, Dec. 2022)
The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet Les Caillerets 1er Cru has a perfumed, mineral-driven nose that is one of the best amongst de Montille's whites: tensile and brimming with vivacity. The palate is taut and fresh on the entry, lime and grapefruit merging into slightly more tropical fruit towards the finish, but the tension is here throughout. This is a triumph given the season. Drinking window: 2025-2045. Score - 93-95. (Neal Martin, vinous.com, Jan. 5, 2023)
Brian Sieve has made some very impressive white wines at de Montille in 2018, typified by the quality of this focused, concentrated Premier Cru white. Grapefruit, fennel and patisserie flavours marry appealingly on the palate with 25% new wood, leesy weight and a fresh, tangy finish. Early picking was crucial to the style of the wine. Drinking window: 2021-2028. Score - 94. (Tim Atkin, MW, decanter.com, Oct. 19, 2018)
While the 2021 vintage in Burgundy was a challenging one, top producers such as the venerable de Montille rose to the challenges and produced wines of classic elegance, character and charm. Expect precisely such excellence here.
