Profound yet intense ripe nose with rich but fresh dark cherries, earth, cocoa powder, some violet extract and fresh figs. Concentrated, full-bodied and packed with fresh blackberries, licorice and dark cherries, but nothing heavy. Juicy and long with fine, melted-chocolate tannins. Extremely heavy bottle. Drink or hold. Score - 94. (jamessuckling.com, Oct. 5, 2022)
Rich, fruity nose with lots of crushed blackberries and dark cherries, colored with dark spices and a hint of smoke. Full-bodied with a concentrated and focused palate. The tannins form a sturdy frame, but the fresh fruit rides through the long finish. Drink or hold. Score - 93. (jamessuckling.com, Nov. 7, 2023)
This blend of Montepulciano and Sangiovese is always a wine of great value and style. Supple, complex and floral, with vanilla spice, cherry, black fruit, plum, leather, peppercorn and bramble tones, it's crafted in a modern, approachable style.
The 2023 Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Querciantica opens with a pretty blend of dried flowers, raw almonds and young peach. It's oily in texture with a core of brisk acidity and tart orchard fruits to balance. Tactile mineral tones add form toward the close. The 2023 tapers off long and classically dry, with tart lime traces that curl the tongue. This is a beautifully balanced Verdicchio, especially at this price point. Drinking window: 2024-2027. Score - 89. (Eric Guido, vinous.com, May 2, 2024)
The 2023 Pecorino Offida Villa Angela is sharply focused with a pungent whiff of grapefruit and lemon zest, further complicated by wild herbs and crushed stone. This is round and soothing, with a balanced inner sweetness offset by sour lime and crisp green apple. It finishes short yet clean and refreshing, leaving a hint of tart citrus rind concentration. If tasting blind, I could mistake this for a rich and powerful New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. That said, it's opulent, balanced and thoroughly satisfying. Drinking window: 2024-2026. Score - 89.
