This compelling VQA red blends the classic Bordeaux varietals of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Aromas of blackberry and red cherry are balanced by floral and herbal notes. The palate brings appealing floral, berry and coffee flavours and a balanced, medium body.
Syrah can achieve impressive results in Niagara, as this wine illustrates. Spicy and fruit-forward, it has a good structural underpinning and will pair nicely with pepper steaks, charcuterie, or prosciutto pizza.
This wine encapsulates all of what makes Niagara Cabernet Franc so appealing. There's plenty of ripe red and dark fruit, with an evocative underbelly of garden herbs and a marked minerality. Lithe and medium-bodied, it has the structure for pairing with grilled foods without losing its sipability. Pair with dinner or conversation. This will evolve for another 10+ years.
From Niagara's amazing 2020 vintage, this 100% Merlot delivers all the promise of that stellar year. It's complex and charming, with generous dark fruit, cherry, plum, currant, chocolate, dried herbs, and mixed spices. This will work with a wide range of foods from hearty vegetable stews through to turkey dinners with all the fixin's. Try it with duck breast for a real treat.
A classic Niagara meritage blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot featuring ripe dark fruit over wafts of cherry essence and cedar. The palate is fresh and fullbodied, with an expansive quality through to the mid-palate, giving way to grippy tannins. Needs a little time for the oak and tannins to soften. Score - 90. Redstone is an outpost of Ontario's iconic Tawse and is named for the red soil of the vineyard. This lithe rosé is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Gamay and Syrah and is loaded with strawberry, citrus, cantaloupe, cherry, peach, and red pepper. Chill and then sip, or pour with grilled sausages, prosciutto, or brunch with a ricotta frittata and broccolini.
Tight and sharp, even a bit lean as gamay but fun and fine enough, nevertheless. Crisp, herbaceous and straightshooting son of a varietal gun. Take and taste a glass anytime. Drink 2024-2025. Tasted blind at NWAC 24, June 2024. Score - 89. (Michael Godel, winealign.com)
