The 2021 RunRig is an impossibly bright and vibrant wine, with intense power and structure to match the impermeable fruit. Not much more can be said of this wine other than that it came from a magnificent vintage that experienced healthy winter rains in the lead up to the growing season and dry conditions throughout the growing season. The wines have been lauded, and in the case of a wine like this, it is evident why. Like the 2018 vintage, you could drink this anytime, but one would counsel patience. 15% alcohol, sealed under natural cork. Drink date: 2031-2061. Score - 99. Barossa Valley generosity comes through in plum, blackberry, blueberry and fig, with cocoa, vanilla, smoke, tobacco and peppery spice following closely. Torbreck Old Vines Grenache, Mourvèdre and Shiraz 2022 is rich and plush, yet savoury earth and balanced tannins keep it from feeling one-note. It is a hearty match for barbecue, stews or charred eggplant.

The 2024 The Steading Blanc is a composition of Roussanne (63%), Marsanne (28%), and Viognier (9%), and the wine is equal parts floral, chalky phenolics and preserved citrus fruits. It has a burst of fresh saline acidity in the mouth, and the wine seems a perfect fit for the soils of the Barossa. The fruit is from the Descendant vineyard on Roennfeldt Road, first planted in 1994. This is very good. Drink date: 2025-2032. Score - 94. (Erin Larkin, robertparker.com, April 10, 2025)

The 2024 Woodcutter's Semillon is from a spectacular year in South Australia. It was warm and dry and everything good - 'Goldilocks,' in the words of winemaker Ian Hongell. On the back of the wet 2023 season, the soils were charged with moisture, and the growing year proceeded with calm and health. Everyone I met with so far, from both Barossa and McLaren Vale, has stars in their eyes about this vintage. Here, the wine leads with fresh-cut straw, lemon pith, green apple skin and white flowers. The wine is sleek on the palate; the phenolics are chalky and kick in through the middle palate and finish, but it remains a tightly focused, streamlined wine. I like the focus and detail here; the wine shows length and precision, but it has very little width and breadth, which are attributes in Barossa Semillon. Excellent. Drink date: 2025-2039. The fruit for the Les Amis Grenache is from the Slade vineyard, planted in the 1960s. The wine was matured for 24 months in French barriques (40% new). The 2020 Les Amis Grenache is savory, resinous, structural and firm. The core of red fruit remains protected, but it is clear that there is a long future for this wine that is obvious from now, and it will only evolve over time. Clove bud through the finish leaves a cooling, mineral feel in the mouth. This is very big, but very good. It is polished, and the tannins have a gritty chew to them, which is very attractive. The 2021 The Factor is a blend of vineyard sites (Krondorf, Rowland Flat, Greenock and Marananga) and is 100% Shiraz (Syrah). On the nose, it offers a complete vision of Barossa Shiraz - chewy, supple, spicy, big, expansive and voluminous. It has a way of being both structural and inviting and flows long through the finish. This is a very good wine here, classy, comforting and evocative, and while silky, it's also pleasingly regional. The tannins are gently chewy through the finish, which I like very much. Cuvée Juveniles is an iconic name in contemporary Barossan wine. A young drinking wine by design, a blend of 45% grenache, 36% mataro, 17%, carignan and 2% counoise, light on the oak, big on drinkability. High-toned with purple floral and jasmine top notes, juicy red fruits and layered spice, gingerbread, biltong and exotic spice from the mataro, fine, silty tannins and just an effortless, slurpy, easy-drinking vibe.
