Cherry, raspberry and plum provide a classic Tuscan fruit profile for this Brunello di Montalcino, joined by violet, thyme, leather and cigar box. Oak and vanilla add polish without hiding the Sangiovese freshness. The palate is full and dry, with firm tannins and a long, velvety finish.
Aromas of iron, citrus, dark berry and rust follow through to a full body, with blood orange, dark berry and a spicy finish. Impressive bark undertones too. Sensational merlot and sangiovese blend. Better in 2019. Score - 95. (jamessuckling.com, July 19, 2016)
The 2015 Pomino Bianco Riserva Benefizio Castello di Pomino is a lovely white wine with substance, power and a creamy consistency. This is a deeply sophisticated and finely nuanced wine with yellow fruit, apricot, vanilla, white rose and toasted almond. The mouthfeel is fresh, generous and luscious. Comes together nicely on the persistent aftertaste, where mineral and wild herb accents emerge. Offers terrific balance, freshness and harmony. Best from 2027 through 2045. Score - 97. A firm, silky red with black and red cherries and hints of mint. Undergrowth and wild-strawberry undertones. It's full-bodied with super fine yet structured tannins that lead the wine down a deep and intense palate. A minerally, almost chalk and oyster-shell undertone to the fruit.
