Giddy-up! This engaging, inviting wine has oodles of strawberry-rhubarb, raspberry, red cherry, and orange peel to offer, along with a bright, fresh, crisp acidity that builds to a lip-smacking finish. Pair with pulled pork, barbecued ribs, or turkey burgers.
The 2023 Riesling Icewine was harvested on January 14. It's bright, bold and balanced, with vibrant tangerine, passion fruit, honey and quince. Crafted in a food-friendly, approachable style that showcases the diversity of Icewine, it's a wine that will age. It will be great with blue cheese or pâté, but don't think twice about trying it with a spicy vegetarian chili.
Generously aromatic and voluminous, as if there was a bit of skin contact but could it be the complexity of the lees entirely adding dimension to this unfiltered style of chardonnay. An a-typical but not unwelcome incarnation of this variety from Niagara-on-the-Lake with a notable vibrancy and dynamism to the palate along with palpable tension and an absence of showy oak or excessive warmth from alcohol. Offering the unadorned purity of fruit with memorable length. Tasted July 2023. Score - 93. (Sara d'Amato, winealign.com)
This bold, Cabernet Franc-led red blend is a stunning declaration of top-tier local winemaking from the legendary J-L Groux. It spent 18 months in French oak, lending shades of vanilla to the black raspberry fruit and chalky, toothsome minerality.
Stratus Vineyards is known for their ultra-premium wines and dedication to innovation and quality. This Cabernet Franc shows notes of blackberry, cedar, and cherry with hints of anise and black olive. It is a dense, fruit-forward wine with silky tannins and vibrant acidity. This robust red would pair well with grilled lamb.
A heady, room-filling nose of ripe peach, beeswax and pineapple bolstered by complex savoury notes of buttered brioche and Ontario limestone. The 2016 White's palate gushes with peach nectar and tropical fruit and the finish is as broad as it is long.
Complex and intense with liqourice, lemons, wax and sour cherries, with keen acidity under the bold fruit. There's a lot going on here: a weighty wine with lots of flavour, high acidity and a dry finish. Score - 92. (Jamie Goode, wineanorak.com, July 31, 2022)
Few do varietal Petit Verdot quite like French-born and -trained winemaker J-L Groux.Expect impressively layered notes of red berry and red-fruit jam with spice, minerality, and impeccable framing tannins. A good choice tonight with beef stew or your favourite cut of steak, this wine will also reward patience and be well worth following through 2035 and beyond.
An intense but balanced and elegant wine with a dark raspberry and cherry nose and palate. The tannins are ripe but slightly chalky and the wine is well structured and dense. A very long elegant finish. Tasted blind at NWAC 2024, June 2024. Gold Medal winner at the 2024 National Wine Awards of Canada. Score - 93. (Janet Dorozynski, DipWSET, Ph.D., winealign.com)
