Leather, pencil shavings and balsamic vinegar on the nose mingle with wild herbs, especially oregano, with mint, cherry and chocolate arriving later. The palate has more cherries surrounded by blood orange jam before a shot of espresso on the slightly bitter finish that lasts thanks to sturdy tannins. Score - 94. Straw yellow colour, this refreshing Chardonnay shows aromas of broom flowers, apples and exotic fruits. Fresh and fruity on the palate with perfectly balanced mineral and citrus fruit notes. Moonlite is very versatile and pairs well with many chicken and pasta dishes; serve chilled.
Young by Italian standards, this winery was founded in 1973 - so it's no wonder their take on Chianti Classico is modern. Food-friendly with floral, red plum, cedar and licorice notes with a chestnut element. It sings with fine fare like meat lasagna, antipasti or veal scaloppini.
One of Italy's most famously food-friendly red wines, Chianti is a welcome guest at any table. This one shows layers of sour cherry, chestnut, smoke, leather and chestnut. A brilliant choice with eggplant parmigiana sandwiches or grilled beef and mushroom kebabs.
Founded in 1973 by film producer Italo Zingarelli, Rocca Delle Macie has made quality wines steeped in Tuscan tradition. The Chianti Vernaiolo is a medium-bodied and well-balanced red. The nose shows notes of black cherry, coffee, and licorice, which replay on the palate. Enjoy this red with classic Margherita pizza.
